Trembling Nibbles and Iris stood on the edge of the nest getting ready to jump.

“Come on Nibbles and Iris, Jump!” screeched their mother while she circled the nest. Nibbles took a step back ready to run and jump. He whispered to himself.

“1, 2, 3!” Nibbles then jumped off the nest with his eyes closed, He started to flap his wings. His mother then screeched. “open your eyes my love!” Nibbles slowly opened one eye and saw that he was flying, “look mother, I’m flying, I’m flying” he cried.

Suddenly Iris spotted something moving in the reeds. “Mother, look there’s something down in the reeds looking up at us!”

Mother called for Nibbles to come back to the nest but he was too busy flying around. Then suddenly he lost control and started to fall to the ground where the fox was. Mother dived down to save Nibbles. She just Caught him in time and flew back up to the nest.

“Mother What was that thing looking up at us?” asked Iris Whilst she curled up into a ball. Mother replied

“It was a fox, we need to be careful otherwise we will be its dinner.” The next morning Mother went hunting for fish around where the fox had been so she kept her eyes peeled. Suddenly there was a rustle in the reeds. Mother turned around she saw a glimpse of a fox paw. She tried to fly away but her claws got stuck in a root. So she was stuck there. Then it struck.

Iris and Nibbles woke up hearing a strange sound and wondered where their Mother was. They were both scared by this sound.

“W…W…What was that?” whimpered Iris

“I don’t know but it was something” said Nibbles. Iris looked down and spotted the fox again and he was eating something. She burst into tears.

“What’s the matter now?” asked Nibbles

“I think Mother’s been eaten, look.” cried Iris.

Nibbles started to tremble and cry too, then stopped.

“We must stay strong, I will look after you Iris but we must find new territory.”

So they took off and because Iris couldn’t fly they walked along the river and then suddenly spotted the fox and the fox spotted them. They started to run and so did the fox, the chase was on. Nibbles had an idea, he dived into the holding Iris. The fox stopped chasing and ran into the reeds.

“We’re safe!” thought Nibbles. Iris wasn’t so sure.

Suddenly they heard a horn and looked behind and saw a holiday boat coming towards them. They couldn’t go onto the river side because of the fox, they were stuck!

They swam for their life, and finally reached a corner with a tree they could easily nest in so the quickly climbed onto the bank and Nibbles grabbed Iris and flew up to the tree, she liked it alot.

The holiday boat went past making such a noise but it didn’t matter now, they were safe and that’s all that mattered, for a little while.
