Pathways Database Context Search

This page is based on the way that Pathways Project team analysed the data they gathered from various sources such as children's writing about their relationships to place, local Non-Governmental Organisations stories of place, and so on. The decision tree for categorising the data might be useful for anyone who is interested in how humans respond to and interact with the places they live in. It is particularly relevant to the way that people engage with living in East Anglia, including the Norfolk Broads and the Fens. It is also useful to anyone interested in how change and climate change feature in human's relationships to locality.

Guidelines for Searching

The context terms displayed below are used to identify where texts have a contextual meaning. This allows a search to be performed on the context of the text rather than which words are present in the text. If a text includes a particular context term, it does not necessarily mean that the word(s) has/have been used in the text, rather that the text has that context. In order to search for specific text (e.g. 'animals' or 'dogs'), use the Pathways Database Text Search

The context terms are structured in a hierarchical way, allowing searches to be made either broadly (using the higher-level terms), or in a more granular/specific way by using terms that sit lower in the hierarchy.

In the list of terms below, click the icon to expand the term to the right, or the icon to collapse the list to the right of the icon. Click on the text of the term to search all documents where the selected context has been used.

Some (but not all) of the terms include explanatory text which will be displayed by hovering the mouse pointer over the term.
