“I’m just going out to get your breakfast, So Stay here.” Warned Mistress Sedge, “there are dangers out there!” As she made her way along the river bank to her favourite feeding spot, she suddenly dived in and found herself face to face with a pike! Staring into the deadly eyes of the Pike, the worrying face of Mistress Sedge thought of her young and if they were ok and still in the burrow.

Meanwhile, at the borrow Nibbeler was thinking about mother, he thought about how long she had been out for, maybe the danger had got her. Suddenly he stopped thinking got up and made an announcement, “I’m going out to find mother.” “No, you’re not! The danger will get you.” Argued Willow. Bravely, Nibbeler made his way to the entrance of the burrow, followed by parsley, and the youngest called Lucky. “I’m coming with you but don’t blame me if we get lost” cried Willow.

In the distance they spotted a flash of silver! Suddenly Nibbeler froze, dived in and swam to it, followed by the rest of them. It was a pike and it was face to face with their mother! They all ran to the burrow, including their mother, she knew that pike wouldn’t be able to get in there. Breathlessly, they all sat down, not a word was spoken.

The next morning Willow was the first to wake up, she had forgotten all about last night. She was about to snuggle back up to go to sleep when she heard a bang outside. She was about to go and investigate when suddenly her mother pulled her away from the mouth of the burrow and told her not to go out there until the pike was gone. “We need to move burrow,” said Parsley in a distracted voice. The burrow was crumbling the pike was trying to bust them out! Their mother ran out of the burrow, clawed the pike to the ground and bit the pike on the neck. “Dinner is served” announced their mother. They all dug in and had a bit of the wonderful pike.
